The Earlham College Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a full-time, three-year Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning in Fall 2023. The department has a preference for an experimentalist, but is open to all sub-fields.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have a teaching load of 3 courses per semester with appropriate credit given for laboratory sections, and will teach a range of topics, including introductory courses and labs as well as advanced courses and a senior seminar in the candidate’s area of interest. College support, including conference travel funding, summer research funds, faculty development funds, and assistance with applications for external grants, is available to successful candidates who wish to engage in scholarly activities. The successful candidate will receive departmental mentorship.
Departmental & Institutional Information
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is a small, dynamic group with three full-time faculty members, administrative support, and active research programs in computational biophysics and gravitational physics. Earlham's facilities include local cluster computing resources, a teaching observatory, a natural history museum with a planetarium, a laser physics research lab, and dedicated research laboratory space for a successful candidate.

- Demonstrate passion for and experience of teaching excellence
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Be able to teach and maintain an Advanced Physics Lab
- Be a positive example and resource to all Earlham Students
Additional Qualifications an/or Interest (though the following are not requirements):
- Have interest in conducting research with undergraduate students
- Could contribute to an Engineering curriculum (beyond traditional physics courses)
