    Under the supervision of the Director of Residence Life and Housing, the Resident Director (RD) has shared responsibility for the selection, hiring, training, evaluation, and sole responsibility for the supervision of up to 8 Resident Assistants (RA's) in a residence hall community of up to 280 resident students. Job duties also include providing on-call coverage and responding to emergencies for the entire residential community of up to 1,024 resident students. On-call coverage may require rotating weekly, weekend, holiday, and summer coverage and is shared across a team of on-call support staff.     Other cross-campus resources as needed; oversight in judicial matters; committee work within the Office of Residence Life, Student Affairs, and with other Concordia offices; and work cooperatively with other campus departments such as Campus Safety, Admissions, Dining Services, the Wellness Center, and the Center for Student Leadership and Development, University Services, Facilities, and Athletics etc. As a part of a team, the RD assists the Director of Residence Life and Housing, fellow Resident Directors, and other on-call staff members, with overall Residence Life departmental operations including housing exceptions committees as assigned, and will participate in the creation and marketing of all housing recruitment efforts.


    The Resident Director, in conjunction with the entire Residence Life staff, aids in the development of a strong residential community. This individual promotes student academic and social success, student mental health and wellness, student leadership, student spiritual development, and diversity awareness, with a special emphasis in the management and administration of one residence hall area.


    This is a full-time, 12-month position. Although the majority of the position will function as described in the job description and performance programs, some aspects are subject to change due to evolving departmental needs. All activities coming from this position are to make a significant contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the University.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:


    Section A: Student Staff Supervision


    1. Select, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise up to 8 Residents.
    2. Assist in the annual Resident Assistant recruitment, interview, and selection.
    3. Assist in the creation of Fall and Spring RA Training as well as in-service training throughout the academic year; this includes necessary changes or updates to the RA Training Manual.Foster unity and teamwork through in-service training, biweekly department meetings, department service projects, building close downs, and end of semester.Regularly meet with RA's for one-on-ones and staff meetings. Serve as the primary contact for personal, academic and paraprofessional support.Oversee and approve Resident Assistant timesheet.Hold RA's accountable for the weekly health and safety room checks of their residents and daily rounds and on-call.

    Section B: Counseling and Advising


      Intervene and counsel residents on behavioral, emotional, health and safety issues and make appropriate referrals to on- and off- campus entities; counsel individuals and/or groups regarding personal and/or academic needs and university policy.Manage cases for students of concern assigned by the University's Assessment Care Committee, by way of RA or RD.Offer support and training to the RA, assisting with a plan for follow-up with their resident and requesting from the many necessary interdepartmental referrals.Intervene, counsel and advise students in personal conflicts; facilitate roommate.
    1. Documental notes as records in to the assigned case management.
    2. Sit on the TitleIX and Equity Review Committee to assist in one of the various case roles on a University Title IX.

    Section C: Community Management & Relations


      Manage the overall operation of the Residence Hall assigned, including lounges, programming spaces, bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry.Provide daytime, evening and weekend on-call coverage, including some holidays, for emergency response to residence hall incidents in rotation with other Resident Directors. While on duty, be within 15 minutes of campus to respond to crisis and emergency.Respond to emergencies including safety and security issues, student crises, maintenance and facilities concerns, and programmatic.
    1. Interpret and apply University and Housing.
    2. Serve as one of the Student Conduct Hearing Officers for the Office of Student.
    3. Assist with housing needs, including the preparation of all buildings for move-in and move-out and communication of building service.
    4. Serve as contact and/or mediator for roommate conflicts.
    5. Advise students on room change and housing contract cancellation policies and procedures, and facilitate roommate/apartment changes in conjunction with the Director of Campus.Implement fines and communicate billing changes in a timely manner with the Director of Residence Life and Housing.

    Section E: Administration


      Attend weekly department meetings with the fellow Resident Directors and on-call professional.Attend all University Faculty/Staff Meetings, as well as regular Student Affairs meetings, and all other meetings as requested by your supervisor.
    1. Attend all Student Affairs Staff Trainings and Retreat.
    2. Meet one on one, regularly with the Director of Residence Life and Housing.
    3. Participate on various departmental and campus committees and work.
    4. Keep all financial records up to date and timely budget records, annually for the assigned.Attend new student orientation in the fall and spring.Attend and support "The Hunt" spirit events during the academic year and other hall and building programmings hosted by the Resident Assistants.Attend chapel on campus throughout the.Attend admissions events as requested in the Fall, Spring, and Summer Assist with all building close downs: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring, Easter, and Summer breaks.All other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life and Housing.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Required to live on site in the residence halls. A staff apartment will be provided. Required to share night, weekend, and holiday on call responsibility. Serves as an emergency response person for an entire living community of 1,000 plus residents. Must be willing to work occasional evenings, nights, weekends and/or alternate work schedules. Must be present during all staff training periods and for the opening and closing of the residence halls unless otherwise permitted by the Director of Residence Life and Housing.


    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
      Minimum of 1-2 years' experience working in housing or residential life in a college/university community setting;
    • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required
    • Master's degree in College Student Affairs, Administration, Counseling, or related field highly preferred.Experience working in a Christian liberal arts institution
