Swarthmore College seeks applicants for a 3 year, full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor of Art appointment in Painting and Drawing to begin in Fall 2023. The standard teaching load is four courses per year. The Art Program inside the Department of Art and Art History emphasizes an integrative approach that fosters students’ development of theoretical perspectives, technical command, and social and environmental responsibility through visual forms. In addition to teaching a range of drawing and painting courses, the faculty member will participate in department activities including faculty meetings and critiques of student works executed in other media. We seek an artist with a developing or established exhibition and/or commission record. This artist should possess a working knowledge of a wide range of traditional materials and techniques. We seek candidates with a developed pedagogy and teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level. Candidates with an MFA as their terminal degree are encouraged to apply. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
