Full-time members of the facultyare professional educators who have the primary responsibility of fulfillingthe Colleges’ mission, vision, values, strategic plan, President’s & Boardof Trustees’ charges and educational philosophy, and primary goal of providinga quality education for all students attending the College. Faculty members areclassified according to the ranks of Instructor, Assistant Professor, AssociateProfessor, and Professor. Faculty members are subject to Board policies,including academic freedom, and are also bound by its accompanyingresponsibilities. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is oneof leader, teacher, adviser, mentor, and facilitator of learning. This positionis intended to be in multi-competency history instruction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instruction and StudentLearning
Teaches assigned courses asscheduled and assumes primary responsibility for and exercises oversight of thecurriculum in conjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both therigor of programs and the quality of instruction. Designs curriculum embracingdiversity, in all forms, to foster talent in students while modeling inclusiveteaching strategies, with an understanding of the sociocultural issues oftraditionally underrepresented groups. Considers individual differences ofstudents in order to design and support a range of appropriate learningactivities. Participates in the identification of students with academic orother needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource. Uses technology ina manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs andcommunicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology. Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with theFaculty Handbook and departmental policies.
Maintains attendance records,determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with establishedpolicies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback aswell as other relevant information to students throughout the semester. Createand maintain accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college,cross-college, and instructor requirements.
Participates in the selection ofappropriate materials to support course curriculum in accordance with theCollege’s guidelines. Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with theprescribed meeting schedule. Employs and assists in the design and developmentof appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’ performance inachieving course goals and objectives. Be a facilitator of learning in avirtual environment.
Student Engagement andAdvisement
Creates a positive classroomatmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort,academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support forlearners. Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmentaland policies of the College. Uses technology to assist in communicationwith students. Encourages a sense of community among students for learningboth inside and outside the classroom.
Advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program,career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion. Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services availableat the College or in the community.
Promotes continual improvement aspart of the cycle of teaching and learning by: assisting, as appropriate, inthe maintenance of instructional materials and laboratory facilities;contributing, as appropriate, to the development, selection, and improvement ofinstructional materials, laboratories, and other instructional facilities;providing guidance in the development, maintenance, and design of coursedescription, course outlines, and syllabi; recommending modifications to thecurriculum and participating in the design of new curricula.
Completes all mandatory performance evaluation measures within specified timelimits and participates in all required training by the College. Sharesbest practices with colleagues in formal or informal settings. Participates in instructional, departmental, or institutional research toimprove educational effectiveness. Evaluates teaching and assessmentpractices to continue improving them.
Provides feedback, as appropriate,regarding the general operations of the department, division and theCollege. Provides advice and/or assistance to faculty within thedepartment, division, or College. Attends faculty meetings as called by thePresident, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean or DepartmentChairperson; and participates, as appropriate, on departmental and divisionalcommittees.
Maintains a personal portfolio fortenure and promotion review and other career-related needs. Employs student,administrative and self-appraisals to establish goals and objectives forprofessional development, and participates in professional developmentactivities. Contributes, as appropriate, to the planning, evaluation, and/orpresentation of college professional development programs. Maintains requiredprofessional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours asdisciplinary standards dictate.

Provides consultative assistanceto and advises, as appropriate, student organizations and groups. Contributesto the community and/or the profession as a representative of the College.Participates in local, statewide, or national levels in the advancement of thediscipline and/or the two-year college mission. Works a varying schedule,including nights & weekends to meet departmental needs. Other duties asrequired.

- Master's degree in History with concentrations supporting the teaching of Western, American, African American, and World History.
- At least three (3) years prior teaching experience at the college level.
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in History with concentrations supporting the teaching of Western, American, African-American, and World history. Prior full-time teaching experience at the college level. Prior experience with College Credit Plus and Open Educational Resources.
