Assistant Track and Field Coach-Recruiting Coordinator

FLSA EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY: Salary; Exempt; Administrative, 12 months

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position will assist with all daily aspects of the sport and will participate as an active member of the Athletics Department. Alma College is a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the NCAA Division Ill.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position reports to the Head Track and Field Coach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Coaching and training Alma College student-athletes, developing and
conducting workout schedules.
•Commit to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set
forth for the team, College, the MIAA, and the NCAA with the utmost
integrity.
•Work closely with fellow coaches to develop recruiting strategies and a
pool of admissible prospects.
•Oversee recruitment operations, including but not limited to front rush
management, visit management, and outreach.
•Maintain good relations with parents of prospective and current
student-athletes.
•Responsible for helping with the administration and set up of the Scottie
Classic Track and Field Meet in the spring as well as any MIAA events
that may be a part of our rotation or high school events that may occur
using our campus facilities.
•Help with retention of current student-athletes, monitoring grades and
academic progress.
•Develop student athletes to be contributing members to the campus
community and the community at large.
•Help make travel arrangements for the team.
•Cooperate with athletic training staff, maintenance staff, transportation
staff and others who are involved in supporting the athletic program.
•Work cooperatively with personnel in athletic department, attend
department meetings and activities, and always represents the college
positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school, and
club coaches, media and general public.
•Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors’ degree in a related field required.
• Experience coaching track and field.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
• Ability to analyze data and clearly communicate findings to internal and external
audiences.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Good organizational and analytical skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be physically able to lead practices program.
• Position requires working weekday evenings and weekends as well as some
travel.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to
walk or sit for long periods of times.
