SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY: The Illustration Program in the School of Art within the College of Visual and Performing Arts welcomes applications for a full-time non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor, beginning August 2023. This position offers a 3-year renewable contract based on exemplary performance and University needs. An MFA in Illustration or equivalent, professional experience in the field, and at least three years teaching experience is required.

The school is actively seeking candidates who value equity and inclusion, who incorporate marginalized voices and perspectives into their pedagogy, and who have experience mentoring students artists of diverse identities. We are looking for collaborative colleagues who will participate in the life of a vibrant school, including curriculum development and fostering innovative teaching practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in established approaches supporting contemporary practices across a broad spectrum and an interest in a number of fields such as editorial and sequential illustration, licensing, and the entertainment industry.

The NASAD-accredited department is housed in a tier-one research university and offers degrees in Illustration (BFA, MFA), Studio Arts (BFA, BS, MFA), and Arts Education (BFA, MS). The current enrollment is approximately 223 majors with 46 full and part-time faculty committed to developing highly skilled professionals ready to tackle the demands of contemporary art and commerce.
