Responsibilities of Aviation Academic Program DirectorResponsible for program initial certification process and continued adherence to the certification standards of CFR Part 147 and acts as liaison to the FAA, state, and local agencies for the program. Serves as the means of community and commercial outreach for the aviation maintenance program to local, state, and regional economic development entities. Works with said agencies to represent the college and identify, cultivate relationships, and encourage greater aerospace development in the region. Cultivates and sustains industry relationships with companies and establish campus recruiting relationships, works with companies to develop and execute recruiting and branding strategies that meet our corporate partners’ talent sourcing goals. Serves as a messaging arm to clearly communicate to the community and education partners the opportunities available for students of all levels.
- Participates in student recruitment, public relations, industry outreach, and marketing efforts. Participates in outreach to local educational institutions to provide knowledge of the career opportunities for all levels of school students. Coordinates with local and state officials to create employment and economic opportunities for students and the community.
- Participates the development of teaching at NETC, assists with the hiring of staff and faculty, implementation of the curriculum, selection, and acquisition of equipment, and serves as the founding director the Aviation Maintenance School.
- Coordinates with the Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education to ensure the program’s adherence to the certification standards of CFR Part 147 and acts as liaison to the FAA, state, and local agencies for the program.
- Gathers information to remain current on national trends concerning college aviation programs, aviation education centered legislation. Potential sources of education funding (including institutional, federal, and private), and of trends within the aviation industry.
- Coordinates with the Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education to meet with incoming students and their families to explain the responsibilities and opportunities for all future aviation maintenance students.
- Provides the civilian and military sectors with relevant information regarding College programs and services. Assists military personnel in receiving credit or aid to complete the training program. Works with partner college for maximum two way transfer of program courses.
- Assists in monitoring and processing budget expenditures for the program. Practices diligence in safeguarding of college assets. Along with other campus staff members, ensures that campus financial affairs are in good order and that the campus is always audit ready.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
SBTCE Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in aviation or education from an accredited institution of higher education. 5 year’s practical aviation industry experience and knowledge of CFR Part 147. 5 years’ experience working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and federal regulation compliance. Must have a valid driver's license.
NETC Preferred Requirements: Prior supervisory experience in aviation business, manufacturing or aftermarket aircraft maintenance. FAA certification or credential in Maintenance and/or Flight operation, 1-2 years aviation economic development experience.
Program Director must have demonstrated skills in these areas of requirements: credentials appropriate for teaching assignments based on FAA requirements, excellent customer service, mature relationships with industry, and interpersonal skills for leading a new division. Must be able to function in an environment characterized by continual changes in education, training, and industry.
Additional CommentsLimited supervision provided by the Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education.
This position requires in-state and out-of-state travel. Overnight travel may be required. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
