Agriculture and the life sciences are undergoing a technological revolution with the adoption and use of artificial intelligence (AI). The availability of large amounts of data or “big data” surrounding agricultural production and the life sciences, that is increasingly heterogeneous, presents a challenge to traditional methods to process and estimate meaningful relationships critical to informed decision-making.Essential Job Duties:
Building upon existing strengths in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and across the university, this position will provide AI expertise applied specifically to agriculture and/or life science systems.Other Responsibilities:
We are seeking a candidate for a tenure-track position as a 9-month Assistant or Associate Professor (75% Research, 25% Teaching) that can provide expertise in the application of computational sciences such as AI, machine learning, computer vision, imaging systems, decision intelligence, and/or modeling to address integrated plant, animal, and/or food production, amidst resilience, climate change, and sustainability challenges. The successful candidate should be able to contribute to research and teaching activities in the areas of integrated plant, food, and/or animal production, climate change, and/or sustainability. Overall, the focus of the position should be practical and engaged in novel applications. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will teach an interdisciplinary undergraduate and/or graduate course on using AI and decision support systems, engage in multidisciplinary research efforts across CALS, other colleges, and especially with the Plant Sciences Initiative (PSI), Food-Animal Initiative (FAI), and provide a presence in AI at the national and international level as it relates to agricultural and life science systems. The successful candidate will serve as lead coordinator for other AI faculty within CALS. The search is open to candidates from any of the disciplines in the CALS with a background in AI and the tenure home department will be determined based on the credentials of the selected candidate within CALS. Affiliations and collaborations with other departments and colleges would be encouraged. This position may perform other duties assigned by the Department Head or the CALS Dean’s Office.

- Applicants should have a Ph.D. in their discipline (science, engineering, or data science) with research related to agriculture and life sciences.
- Demonstrate competencies in oral and written communications as well as interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and evidence of student or staff mentoring.
Required License(s) or Certification(s):
- Post-doctoral and/or industry experience.
- Expertise in data technologies/science and/or computational sciences such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, imaging systems, decision intelligence, and/or modeling.
- Experience with plant, animal, environmental, and/or food production systems.
- Evidence of collaboration with interdisciplinary scientists and other stakeholders.
- Expected to demonstrate their capability of success (Associate) and/or potential to develop (Assistant) a nationally-recognized competitive research and teaching program.
- Experience engaging with diversity through activities such as fostering an inclusive environment, working with students from diverse backgrounds, or incorporating diverse perspectives in research and teaching.
