About the Department:

The Department of Computer Science is an academic teaching and research department in the College of Engineering. It is a large and complex unit that encompasses research intensive, teaching intensive and professional activities. It is one of the largest such departments in the nation by the number of faculty and students, and its total budget and size are comparable to some NC State University colleges and divisions.

Essential Job Duties:

Primary responsibilities will include teaching core Computer Science courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, with an initial focus on undergraduate core courses. Teaching faculty help maintain consistency and quality of program learning outcomes through curricular innovation, especially at scale. Oversight of Teaching Assistants is expected. Opportunities are available to teach specialized elective courses and mentor researchers at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A successful candidate must be student-centered and interact with the regional and national community. Candidates will be expected to contribute to departmental efforts in service. Participation in high-quality research activities centered on teaching, learning, diversity, and/or Computer Science related pedagogy is welcome and supported. Candidates may have the opportunity to lead in the creation and continuation of specialized advanced undergraduate tracks or concentrations.

A successful candidate should provide evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level, leadership in curricular innovation, and interest in CS educational scholarship. While we are considering candidates with specializations in all areas of computer science; those with backgrounds in security, systems, and/or software engineering are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of Ph.D. Degree in Computer Science or related field is required for Assistant Teaching Professor and higher.

TITLE/RANK IS COMMENSURATE ON DEGREE EARNED, COURSE LEVEL AND CONTENT.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality undergraduate and graduate teaching.
  • Expertise in the area course(s) are taught in.
  • Up to 5 years of experience may be necessary/required depending on the area of course(s) taught.
