The School of Art is part of the College of Visual & Performing Arts, a community of artists and scholars with almost 1500 undergraduate and graduate students. It is the largest visual and performing arts unit in the University of North Carolina system and is recognized for its comprehensive array of graduate programs and the success of its alumni. The School of Art enrolls a vibrant and racially diverse student population of over 400 majors who pursue degrees in Art Education, Art History, Arts Administration, Animation, New Media and Design, Painting, Printmaking and Drawing, Photography, Sculpture and Ceramics.

Housed in a first-rate facility and located next door to the acclaimed Weatherspoon Art Museum, the School of Art has also opened the Greensboro Project Space gallery and experimental site in a vibrant downtown area that is home to the Elsewhere Museum, the International Civil Rights Museum and numerous other cultural institutions.

With this position, the School of Art seeks to expand a diverse and competitive emerging Animation
program at the undergraduate level that is artistically rigorous, promotes next generation storytellers, and prepares students for professional success. The successful candidate will 1) contribute to curricular development in collaboration with School of Art colleagues, 2) actively mentor and recruit students to the Animation program, and 3) teach animation and related areas such as concept art and visualization. An ideal candidate will have experience as a working professional in the field, with prior experience in 2D animation and concept art being a plus.

Responsibilities:
• Teach 3 courses each semester
• Contribute to the Animation curriculum
• Engage in an ongoing dialogue about the program and current practices in the field
• Continue developing diversity competencies such as racial literacy and culturally responsive pedagogy
• Advise and actively mentor undergraduate students
• Supervise student projects
• Actively recruit students to the program
• Provide service to the department, college, university and community

• Either a Master’s degree in Animation, Visual Art, Media Studies, or a related field; or an equivalent record of professional experience in the field (more than 5 years) and at least one notable professional achievement (Licenses and certifications, documented excellence in teaching, honors or awards, publications, presented papers, juried art activities/screenings, significant successful grants, etc.)
• Significant record of creative activity and/or professional experience in the animation industry
• knowledge of animation history
• Ability to contextualize the field of animation socially, culturally, and historically
• Candidates with transferable skills and a dedicated interest in developing and establishing themselves as teachers
