Job Title:        Assistant or Associate Professor of Education (Tenure Track) 

Reports To:    Chairperson, Division of Education

Status:            Full Time, Exempt

 

General Description

 

The Division of Education at Mount Saint Mary College (NY) seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Education depending on experience. Candidates should have expertise in Language Arts and Multilingual Education (ESL/Bilingual/TESOL). The position has a possible start date of January 2023.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

The successful candidate will teach courses in Linguistics, Language Arts, and Multilingual Education, as well as assist in the ongoing development of ENL and Bilingual programs.

 

The Division of Education places a priority on the importance of clinical experience in teacher education, in addition to working closely with schools in the community. Therefore, faculty-supervised embedded fieldwork are required in courses that the successful candidate will teach.

 

In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, faculty members are expected to maintain active participation in research, provide academic advisement for students, contribute to program planning, curriculum construction or revision, and fulfillment of accreditation requirements.

 

Candidates are also expected to participate in College academic committees, work collaboratively with College faculty, participate in College-wide recruitment activities (Open House, Admitted Students Day, etc.) and embrace a commitment of service to the College and community.

 

 

Qualifications 

Candidates for this position should have an earned doctorate in Education, with specialties in the area of ESL/Bilingual Education, and teaching experience in K-12 schools with diverse populations.

Additionally, candidates should have a strong theoretical background and knowledge of research-based assessments, methods, and strategies for teaching all learners.

The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
