General Description


Mount Saint Mary College seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, and experienced leader who can articulate a vision and strategy for achieving and maintaining the mission of the School of Business—“preparing students for a wide variety of careers as business professionals in diverse organizational settings or for continued academic study.” The next Dean must be committed to enhancing the reputation and expanding the enrollment of the School through campus and community collaborations, and motivated by a desire to lead the School’s faculty, students, and staff in maintaining the highest levels of educational quality. The successful candidate is responsible for monitoring business and industry trends, to successfully and strategically plan, develop, and implement the School’s programs, as well as ensure adherence to International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE) accreditation standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


1.    Commit to a data-driven approach to excellence in curriculum, program expansion, and support of the academic and professional growth of faculty.

2.    Provide visionary and collaborative leadership in service to the School, College, and community.

3.    Lead the School of Business in its implementation of the Mount Saint Mary College 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, which focuses on Service & Community; Students; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Communication; and Innovation & Quality.

4.    Support, through School of Business programs and throughout the College, the Four Pillars of Dominican life: Community, Service, Study, and Spirituality.

5.    Foster a learning community that supports the College and School’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

6.    Bring candidate’s unique academic and professional success to bear on the opportunities and challenges facing the global academic landscape.

7.    Along with faculty and staff, develop and implement a Strategic Plan for the School of Business.

8.    Monitor trends in Business education and seek opportunities to enhance the School’s academic programs.

9.    Along with the Chairperson and the Graduate Coordinator of the School of Business, provide oversight of curriculum development for undergraduate and graduate programs.

10.    Actively engage with current students and alumni.

11.    Prepare budget projections and manage the School budget.

12.    Assume responsibility for and lead the accreditation process.

13.    Work closely with the Dean of the School of Nursing and the inaugural Dean for the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education to design innovative academic programs that support enrollment goals and meet the needs to today’s college students.

 

14.    Work in conjunction with Admissions to attract high quality students eager to enter the workforce with skills to meet the needs of today’s business world.

15.    Serve as liaison to external constituencies including professional organizations and educational institutions.

16.    Develop strong relationships with the broader business community.

17.    Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Advancement in fundraising and grant writing, and work actively with the Vice President for Advancement to support the College’s major comprehensive fundraising campaign by sharing the case for support of the School of Business with donors and prospects.

18.    Expand internal and external collaborations with the established Business Advisory Council.


Requirements

1.    Earned doctorate or other terminal degree in a relevant field required.

2.    Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education as Dean or Assistant/Associate Dean.

3.    A record of distinguished academic and professional achievement in a business setting.

4.    Appropriate academic experience and scholarly work that merits rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Founded by the Sisters of Saint Dominic in 1960, the Mount has been an academic presence here in Newburgh since 1883. The college's roots in education, and in the training of educators, go even further back to the 14th century and Saint Dominic.

It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
