Docent Riikka R is nen, the PI and leader of the BioColour (https://biocolour.fi ) and BioAnti (https://blogs.helsinki.fi/bioantimicrobial/) research consortia, is seeking for

Technical assistant in Science (Craft Science / Organic Chemistry / Natural Products Chemistry / Biomaterials / Textile Technology)

for a year fixed-term contract 1.2.2023-31.1.2024 to work in the BioAnti project University of Helsinki team.

BioAnti is a multidisciplinary research consortium which aims to create a valorisation bath

for the biomass from gardens and parks, and refine it into high value bio-chemicals, which could be used as textile finishing agents. Consortium partners are VTT and LUT University.

We are looking for a highly motivated research/technical assistant with an MSc degree in science, craft science, textile technology, chemistry, material sciences, or other related fields. The research/technical assistant is expected to contribute to research on textile material finishing and wear resistance testing, laboratory scale compound extraction and separation as well as chemical analysis (HPLC-MS and NMR) and characterisation.

The appointed research/technical assistant will work in collaboration with the members of the BioColour research group and will be supervised by Docent Riikka R is nen.

The candidate is expected to have education, experience and technical skills such as

  • A master s degree
  • Experience in laboratory working with textiles and/or biomaterials
  • Experience of natural products chemistry
  • Laboratory working skills
  • Knowledge of chemistry, HPLC, mass spectroscopy and NMR spectroscopy for example
  • Fluency in English
  • Initiative and capable of working independently as well as in team environments

The salary of the research assistant will be based on level 4 requirement level of the university salary system. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. The starting gross salary of the research assistant will be ca. 2 150 2 400 /month, depending on the appointees qualifications and experience. A six-month trial period will be applied.
