Program Support Specialist

The Early Learning Center for Research & Practice at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville

The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate the mission of the Early Learning Center (ELC)—to foster scientific understanding of young children’s development. The ELC accomplishes this mission through (a) interdisciplinary research, (b) academic programs for undergraduate and graduate students, (c) early education programs for young children, and (d) outreach, advocacy, and public policy. The Program Support Specialist primarily exists to support classrooms and the food program in the absence of a regular staff member. This position may support various projects around the ELC. This position requires excellent flexibility and reliability. More information about the ELC is available at elc.utk.edu.



Qualifications
Duties: Supports classrooms in the absence of a regular staff member. Implements the daily schedule, works effectively with other teachers and students in the classroom, responds to children’s needs, communicates to parents, gives direction to pre-service students, etc. 

Supports the food program in the absence of a regular staff member. Follows guidelines for the safe preparation and distribution of food, etc. 

Supports the program with cleaning, organizing, restocking, and classroom-based assistance duties as requested by program administrators. Supports other projects as assigned.

Qualifications: High School Diploma required, Experience caring for young children required.

Skills in communication, organization and care of the physical environment, routine care tasks of young children, guidance techniques with young children, interpersonal skills, management, and professionalism required.

A successful candidate is one who brings their unique background to working with diverse children, young adults, and families.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
