Job Description

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator Senior will coordinate and oversee promotional operations for the College of Arts and Letters (CAL). Reporting directly to the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, this position will be resposible for marketing, public relations and advertising for events in the College. The selected candidate will act as a liaison to University Marketing, Alumni, the Foundation, Public Affairs and local/campus media. This role will promote community awareness of events in the College, and will foster community relations about a range of activites such as musical performances, theatre productions, film screenings, art exhibitions and academic presentations. The College expects this position to utilize social media, print, radio and web platforms to promote the College and should have experience using all mediums necessary to reach audiences.

Promotion and Marketing - 75%
  • Plans and implements ongoing marketing and promotion of the events for the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) for internal and external audiences.
  • Designs and composes weekly event guides and college newsletters in Mailchimp.
  • Designs print and digital media following NAU policies for visual identity branding using appropriate platforms such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Creates social media posts in Hootsuite following NAU policies for social media outreach.
  • Ensures all print and digital media as well as social media outreach meets university requirements for accessibility.
  • Composes press releases and public announcements for CAL events and serves as a liaison for community and university press relation units.
  • Manages content in WordPress for the CAL events page. Maintains/updates main CAL website/pages.
  • Coordinates media distribution (radio, video, and other audiovisual) with community partners and university marketing and communication offices.
  • Coordinates the production and distribution of print materials, such as advertisements, flyers, posters, etc. on campus and in the community.
  • Coordinates photography of CAL special events and of publicity shots.
  • Collaborates with NAU Marketing to create layout and art design for college promotional materials including brochures, flyers, press releases and feature articles; oversees production of materials.

Events Calendar Coordination - 10%
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of a master calendar/schedule of events for use in advertising.
  • Manages college, university, and community events calendars.
  • Makes and implements yearly marketing plan for the college events; makes and implements tailored individual marketing plans for high-profile events.

Committees- 5%
  • Represents CAL on the University Parking Committee
  • Collaborates and networks with other departments throughout the university.

Supervision - 5%
  • Trains and supervises student employees and student interns.

Other - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in relevant field AND
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, OR
  • A combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles for marketing and promotion.
  • Knowledge of marketing practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of social media placement and public relations practices.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of/experience with performing art events.

Skills
  • Skill in content creation for websites in WordPress.
  • Skill in marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Hootsuite, and others.
  • Skill in using visual creation platforms such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or InDesign.
  • Skill in coordinating activities, evaluating data, and establishing priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $45,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
