Position Description

Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with Ph.D studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
 
  • Assist PI in maintaining a supportive and
    collegial working environment that fosters
    exchange of ideas and enhances scientific
    progress.

  • Design & execution of experiments (handling
    and working with rodents, isolation of rat germ
    cells, biochemical extraction of proteins,
    pulldown and Western blot analysis, use of
    conformation-dependent reagents,
    imunofluorescence analysis, cell culture).

  • Recording, calculating, graphing of data in
    laboratory notebook. Preparation of figures for publication (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop etc.).
    Organization and preparation of data for
    formal Powerpoint presentation.

  • Assist P.I. and students in misc. tasks
    (example, training new students, postdocs and
    other investigators in various scientific
    procedures; preparation of talks, grants and
    publications).

  • This is a one year appointment to be renewed
    annually based on satisfactory performance
    and productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g., D.Sc., M.D.) in area of chemistry, biochemistry, or reproductive biology with emphasis in protein structure/function.  Experience working with animals, amyloid, germ cells a plus. 
Employee must have the ability to work carefully and pay attention to detail. Experience using laboratory techniques, familiarity with laboratory equipment and sensitive substances used in experiments is required. Ability to communicate well for complete understanding between employee, supervisor, and other personnel. Ability to follow and implement general instructions. Ability to anticipate needs and identify problems. Experience with laboratory techniques and procedures and types of nomenclature, materials and equipment used; knowledge and principals related to the area.
Experience handling and working with rodents.

Required Qualifications

PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g., D.Sc., M.D.) in area of project specialization.


Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
