Position Description
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Department of Surgery is seeking Trauma Acute Care Surgeons to join our growing division. Our ACS teams, covering two major tertiary referral hospitals, receive a large number of emergency general surgery, trauma and burn patients from the entire West Texas/ Eastern New Mexico region; our Level 1 trauma center is in the top decile for penetrating trauma among TQIP centers in the nation. This large, high acuity patient volume affords an excellent variety of surgical experience, and a great opportunity for clinical/outcomes research and education. All ACS surgeons follow a 12 hour shift model, with no 24 hour call. This model allows for work-life integration and time for administrative roles, education and research.
The successful candidate must be BE/BC in General Surgery, with additional qualifications in trauma/critical care. The candidate should have exemplary clinical skills, a team spirit, collegiality and an interest in teaching and/or scholarly activity. Faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.

Surgical education is a core mission of the department, and the acute care surgery section will include general surgery residents and medical students in addition to advanced practice providers. Major/Essential Functions
Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population.

Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical condition.

Utilizes specialists and referrals as appropriate.

Trains and supervises residents and medical students as appropriate.

May manage the daily operations of a specific medical program, patient care unit, or research function.

Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.

Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety environment, and/or infection control standards.

As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
