St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a Research Analyst for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. The Research Analyst works as member of four-person team in a college institutional effectiveness office with responsibilities in the following domains: research and data analysis; data extraction and management; report writing; development of dashboards and interactive data visualizations; survey development, deployment, and oversight; and consultation with faculty, staff, and students in service of institutional accreditation, assessment of student learning outcomes, and institutional research.

Specific responsibilities:

Prepare, initiate, and implement survey and other data collection and research efforts in support of assessment of student learning outcomes; assist with and support program and personnel evaluation, course and instructor evaluation, and mission-driven and strategic planning initiatives. - 35%

Refine research questions, construct datasets (often as a result of merging data from a variety of sources), choose and conduct appropriate statistical analysis of data, summarize research findings, and prepare reports and presentations in support of requests from various units on campus and of accreditation efforts. - 25%

Assist colleagues in the office in development and updating of the institutional Fact Book; the office website and newsblog; web-based query tools (interactive data visualizations and dashboards), infographics; and reports that allow academic and administrative personnel and units to extract or view relevant information from existing datasets. - 15%

Develop and maintain data queries in campus-wide information system (BANNER). Construct and run data extraction reports (Business Objects). Create and maintain archived institutional data files.  Provide Banner and Business Objects training to others within the OIE office as needed. - 10%

Assist faculty and staff with the development and use of appropriate tools by which to assess student learning outcomes. - 5%

Support faculty, staff, student, and collaborative scholarly research efforts. - 5%

Complete ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance knowledge and skills in service of the duties and responsibilities mentioned above. - 5%

Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education -

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred), preferably in a social science or STEM field.

Experience and Credentials -

  • 3-4 years experience conducting quantitative and qualitative research in an applied setting (e.g., institutional research, program assessment and evaluation, survey research, etc.).

  • 1-2 years experience working with relational databases, including Banner or comparable products, and complex report writing (data extraction).

  • 1-2 years experience with web programming and developing web-based query tools, dashboards, and data visualizations.

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -

  • Strong and demonstrated skills in data management and in the analysis of small and large datasets. Strong familiarity with R/Python (or equivalent statistical analysis software/application). Working knowledge of SQL helpful.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply knowledge of research design and research methodology, especially survey design and methodology.

  • Ability to multi-task, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.

  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in higher education. 

  • Knowledge of computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and data visualization (Tableau) software and applications, including online (Google) versions.

  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers.

  • Ability to exercise good judgement and decisions in an expeditious manner.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information.

Working Conditions:
Regular work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; overnight travel 5-10% of the time.

  • This is primarily a sedentary job with most of day spent seated (and/or standing in combination or as preferred) at desk. While role may regularly require moving between floors in building where office is located and between buildings on campus, this can be accomplished without the need to climb or walk.  Job requires extensive reading of words and numerical and graphic information, and data entry (by means of computer keyboard or equivalent).  Little if any other physical exertion (bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, carrying, etc.) is required of no more than 10 lbs.  

  • There are extensive cognitive requirements of the job, including frequent need to memorize, learn, analyze, communicate, interact with others, and prioritize/complete multiple tasks under time pressure.
