The Department of Theatre at Binghamton University invites applications for a Tenure-track Instructor in South Asian theatre history, drama, and performance to begin Fall 2023. The desired area of specialization will incorporate the teaching of South Asian drama and dance from both historical and practical perspectives and will contribute to the department’s efforts to more fully integrate a decolonized and global perspective into its offerings.
We seek a performer-scholar with an established background in South Asian drama and/or music (preferably with significant performing experience), and who demonstrates promise of an active research and publishing program in the field. Research focus on an underrepresented South Asian country is preferred. The ability to direct Western and non-Western productions and to teach playwriting is also welcomed. The successful candidate will teach survey courses in Asian theatre history as well as both academic and practical/performance courses in area of specialization.
The review of applicants will begin on November 22, 2023. The position will remain open until filled. Members of groups historically underrepresented in the field and those from non-traditional backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. The State University of New York is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
