Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Integrated Urban Design Engineering (IUDE)

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in integrated urban design engineering (IUDE). We are particularly interested in a civil and environmental systems engineer who connects multiple domains including water, energy, materials and structures, transportation, and the environment to address emerging urban challenges. The ideal candidate will have expertise in systems analysis and data science. Building on this training, the ideal candidate will analyze urban areas to address topics such as infrastructure demand, urban sustainability, and urban resilience in the context of rising inequalities, pollution, population growth, extreme events, and climate change. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) life cycle analysis, large-scale quantitative modeling and simulation of city design, energy systems, urban mobility, and sustainability and resilience. The ideal candidate is expected to use theoretical, computational, and/or experimental approaches and develop a leading interdisciplinary program on integrated urban design and management that proceeds from concept to implementation.

Located in the heart of diverse Orange County with a population of over 3 million, UCI enjoys the best of what Southern California has to offer: beaches, mountains, deserts, nature preserves, and a broad variety of cultural, entertainment, and intellectual activities. UCI is located 4 miles from the Pacific Ocean, 45 miles south of Los Angeles, and 60 miles from various mountain ranges. Applicants are expected to have a doctorate from an accredited university in a relevant science or engineering discipline by the expected start date of July 1, 2023. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a vigorous externally funded research program, maintain a strong publication record, advise students, provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute their leadership and innovative thinking toward excellent programs and projects within the department and the university.
