Job Description Summary
The Special Needs Support Instructors provide instructional support to individuals who are disabled, academically disadvantaged, and who need specialized services to access, enroll, continue or complete a program, course, or activity at Fox Valley Technical College.

50 Week Contract (45 weeks of work, 5 weeks of vacation)

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Provide instructional support services for students with disabilities.
  • Serve as a liaison between FVTC staff, students, community services and area schools.
  • Participate in determination of reasonable accommodations.
  • Coordinate the implementation and use of assistive technology for individuals with disabilities.
  • Assist students with academic-related questions/concerns.

​2. Provide case management for students with disabilities.
  • Meet with students and discuss services of Educational Support Services.
  • Evaluate disability documentation.
  • Advise, register, schedule and monitor students according to the Fox Valley Technical College policies and procedures as needed.
  • Write and implement individual accommodation plans for students.
  • Provide reasonable accommodations per ADAAA, Section 504 and other federal/state laws.
  • Coordinate interpreter services.
  • Proctor tests related to courses as needed.
  • Create and disseminate progress reports in courses.
  • Advise, evaluate and monitor GED/HSED candidates for testing accommodations.
  • Complete State reporting for grant documentation.
  • Meet the requirements regarding electronic documentation and case management.

​3. Be a point of contact for Education Support Services in the FVTC District.
  • Ensure access for students with disabilities in all FVTC programing.
  • Advocate for students.
  • Coordinate interpreter services for campus activities as requested.
  • Establish annual goals/objectives of Educational Support Services.
  • Be a part of state called meetings and work groups, as well as campus committees.
  • Be involved in campus-wide activities and trainings as a way to explain the services of Educational Support Services.
  • Assist supervisor in preparation of annual budget of Educational Support Services.


​4. Provide a coordinated approach to assist individuals with disabilities who are transitioning from the high school or community to the college.
  • Attend meetings and classroom presentations.
  • Explain differences between high school and post-secondary school(s).
  • Meet with students, parents, and various high school agencies.
  • Proctor and interpret admissions tests.
  • Be an active member of a county committee on transition.


QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, (Master's Degree in Special Education preferred) AND
  • Experience in special education, rehabilitation, or work adjustment services with individuals who have disabilities, AND
  • Background in teaching Special Education, with knowledge and skills in teaching adults, AND

  • Ability to work with diverse student, staff, and community populations.
  • Understanding and successful use of learning technology, both on-line and as a tool for distance education.
  • A record of innovations which will facilitate student learning.
  • Demonstrated development of course materials and assessments of student learning.
  • An educational philosophy which places the primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.
  • Willingness to take risks and try new things.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.
  • A commitment to the mission, purposes, and values of the college.


Additional Information

Pay: $60,800.00 - $82,900.00 per year.

Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data. Note: Internal applicants' wage will be based upon the applicable compensation structure.
