Position Summary: Dr. Simona Liguori, a faculty member in the Department of Chemical
& Biomolecular Engineering at Clarkson University, is seeking a Research Associate (postdoctoral fellow) to
work on a newly funded, Department of Energy (DOE)-sponsored project developing
catalytic membrane reactors for clean hydrogen production from biomass via the water
gas shift reaction. The successful candidate is expected to work effectively in a
collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with other members of the group, as well as
effectively interface with external partners.

The position is for two years and it is available immediately.

General Purpose: Experimental research that supports the goals and fulfills the
requirements of an DOE supported research grant in the area of chemical engineering.
Remote Work Days- This is a full time on Campus position with zero remote workdays.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Fabrication and characterization of membranes
  • Design, construction, and operation of a custom membrane reformer for clean hydrogen production
  • Collect and analyze experimental data, documenting results and observations
  • Draft manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication
  • Draft periodic sponsor required reports on research and contracted goals
  • Assist PI to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the research lab

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to initiate tasks and work well independently

  • Ability to fabricate, characterize, and test inorganic membranes and/or catalysts
  • Ability to handle chemicals and flammable compressed gasses
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); Strong writing and editorial skills: ability to independently handle the preparation of sponsor reports and research manuscripts

Education:
Minimal Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or related fields - All Ph.D.
requirements should be completed by the time work commences


Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or closely related field
combined with strong publication record

Experience:
Minimal Experience: i) Previous research experience in high temperature chemical
processes; ii) Experience with diagnostics, data acquisition, and control systems;
