About the Position:

The Assistant Dean will be responsible for advancing the mission of the Simmons School of Education and Human Development through print and digital media.  The duties include, but are not limited to, increasing visibility of the School, its programs and faculty research, maintaining relationships with community and media organizations, and assisting with special projects for the Dean.

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

Essential Functions:

    Create and execute the communications strategy for SMU Simmons, sharing school goals and priorities through faculty, program, alumni and student stories. This role leverages media, social media, SEO/web, blogs and other channels to widely share information about the school and drive engagement. 

    Lead storytelling for the school, collaborating with faculty and staff to promote the School’s mission and initiative

    Actively cultivate relationships with journalists at national and local outlets and identify story opportunities to to further Simmons School's mission. Respond to media queries, capitalize on relevant breaking news and trends. 

    Assist Dean with special projects 



Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Master’s degree is required. Preferably a master's degree and study of field in public relations or Journalism.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in communications is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate proven track record at leveraging social, SEO, web and other digital channels to promote stories and drive engagement. Candidate must be a collaborative team player and possess experience driving integrated campaigns cross-functionally and working effectively with internal partners. Must also demonstrate experience developing and executing communications plans leveraging press, social, influencer and creative to achieve goals. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office. 

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
