Position Summary

Develops curriculum, creates lesson plans, and provides virtual and in-person Adult Basic Education (ABE) instruction to High School Equivalency/General Educational Development (HSE/GED) students throughout Coconino County. Supports and facilitates students’ transitions to post-secondary education and careers. Collaborates with community agencies and the college to support program participants’ college and career readiness. This is a part-time, 19 hour/week position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Arizona Adult Education Services Requirements

  • Provides instruction based on the Arizona Adult Education Content Standards to prepare participants to improve basic skills, successfully complete an HSE diploma, and/or integrated skills program and transition to career pathways and or post-secondary education
  • Provides effective instruction to participants based on the Arizona Adult Education ABE Teacher Standards in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics
  • Participates in Arizona Department of Education (ADE) mandated trainings and professional development to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all responsibilities of the position effectively.

  • Responds to inquiries from potential students to provide program information, complete registration, and/or finish onboarding activities during non-instructional working hours, year-round.
  • Conducts intake for new students using CCC’s online application, ADE-AES registration form, and other onboarding documents. Helps students sign up for monthly in-person or virtual orientation sessions.
  • Helps students establish and reexamine academic and/or career goals. Encourages students to identify what they have learned, how it supports their college and career readiness and any gaps that need to be addressed.
  • Conducts academic advising and success coaching throughout the students’ participation in the program, providing information on the internal and external resources available to support them in their current and future endeavors.
  • Plans and provides direct instruction in virtual, in-person, and hybrid modalities to HSE/GED and ELAA students in scheduled classes (evening & weekend availability essential), one-on-one tutoring, and/or small group settings, aligned to AZ Adult Education Content Standards. Assists students with accessing and navigating asynchronous learning options.
  • Utilizes and integrates instructional technology and digital applications into synchronous instruction, implements blended learning activities to extend learning outside the classroom and build digital literacy.
  • Conducts assessments of students’ progress and skills through state approved tests, including the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), CLAS-E and official GED practice tests.
  • Refers students who may have learning difficulties and/or learning disabilities to the appropriate resources/services.
  • Accurately tracks/records pertinent program data (attendance, assessment, credential attainment) and submits it monthly for database entry.
  • Uses multiple methods of summative and formative assessment (formal & informal) to engage learners in their own growth, document learner progress, and make planning/ instructional decisions.
  • Enters student data in the Arizona Adult Education Data Management System (AAEDMS) including intake/registration information, student attendance hours, and post-exit data.
  • Conducts recruitment and retention activities to increase student enrollment and persistence.
  • Attends college, partner and ADE-AES meetings, and professional development workshops/conferences.
  • Follows up with and records student outcomes after program exit.
  • Updates and organizes student records regularly to ensure compliance with state mandates and for accurate database entry.
  • Participates in monthly ARIZONA@WORK partner meetings on a rotating basis to become familiar with partner operations.
  • Collaborates with staff and partner entities to ensure success of the students and the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Skill in providing instruction in ABE, ASE, and ELAA. Knowledge of Adult Education practices; and federal and state laws governing Adult Education Services. Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds, and/or those who are non-native speakers of English, part of an underserved or at-risk population, and/or exhibit low levels of literacy. Familiarity with Windows 10, MS Office, video conferencing software and online, digital tools/resources to deliver instruction synchronously to both in-person and virtual learners.

    Minimum Qualifications

    State Certification in adult education (within 60 days of hire). Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related professional experience; or any combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Arizona State Department of Education and the College Human Resources department.
