Maryville University is searching for an energetic, inclusive, and experienced leader to serve as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. We seek candidates who are innovative thinkers, champion the effective use of instructional technology, and are committed to fostering a positive, culturally diverse community and atmosphere.

The College of Arts & Sciences houses the areas of Design & Visual Arts, the Humanities, Math & Computer Science, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. The dean of the college provides academic leadership for a group of creative and dedicated faculty to implement and advance the University’s strategic plan to empower learners from all backgrounds to reach their dreams.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The dean of the college is responsible for academic programs, student success, and resources within the College of Arts and Sciences:


• Provide leadership in curriculum development, program review and evaluation, learning platforms, and assessment in collaboration with program directors and faculty
• Foster and evolve Maryville’s active learning ecosystem
• Recruit and retain faculty that enhance the quality and diversity of the college
• Provide efficient fiscal administration of college resources and facilities
• Support Maryville University’s strategic plan
• Represent the College’s accomplishments, needs, and concerns to the Vice President of Academic Affairs

Ideal Candidate

Candidates must have earned a terminal degree from an accredited institution in a discipline offered in the college. The successful candidate will have qualifications and accomplishments, which include the following professional and personal characteristics:

Inclusive leader: a demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment that values and supports the diversity of ideas, opinions, and backgrounds

On the Maryville campus, academic, administrative and housing buildings span 130-acres of beautiful wooded and landscaped scenery. Maryville has constructed 10 new campus buildings since 1998. They include the Anheuser-Busch Academic Center, Art & Design Building, University Auditorium, Donius University Center, state-of-the-art health professions facility Myrtle E. and Earl E. Walker Hall and five student apartment buildings.
