POSITION TITLE: Assistant Professor of Economics

FLSA Employment Category: Salaried; Exempt; Faculty; 9 months

Summary: The Economics Department at Alma College, Alma, Michigan invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2023.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. prior to the start date.

Teaching Responsibilities: The department seeks a candidate who will be able to teach a wide range of courses in Economics, including the following: Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Financial Economics, Econometrics, and Behavioral Economics, as well as topical and interdisciplinary courses that will serve our newly revised general education curriculum. An ability to teach Finance and related classes in our new Financial Economics major is also highly useful. Commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment and evidence of effective teaching are essential. Alma College prioritizes inclusive pedagogy, experiential learning, and opportunities for student research. The successful candidate should have demonstrated excellence in teaching and will engage students in research and academic advising. Typical teaching load is six units per year. Additionally, the department is beginning a curricular redesign and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute significantly to this process. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D. prior to the start date.

Research and Service Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to establish a productive research program and scholarship agenda. Service to the college through committee work and other activities is expected of all tenure-track faculty. External service to the public and to the scientific community are supported.

Our curriculum gives students a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied quantitative Economics. Our graduates are ready for professional careers, graduate school, and law school.
