Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Registrar for Systems, the Senior Programmer/Analyst manages student information system (SIS) data in support of graduate admissions and student records. This position serves as project manager for major SIS projects on behalf of the Graduate School and participates in the ongoing testing of upgrades and patches/fixes for all systems. Represents the Graduate Student Service Center in providing customer service to graduate faculty, departmental program staff, and students.

Essential Functions

  • Focuses on data management on behalf of the Graduate Student Service Center, primarily in the PeopleSoft student information system (SIS). Maintains setup data in response to changing business needs and runs data processes at specific times as needed. Extracts and analyzes data to support the Graduate School’s operational needs. Performs quality assurance checks regularly.
  • Participates in the development of new systems and the review of existing systems. Proposes enhancements when deemed necessary. In conjunction with the Assistant Registrar for Systems, develops and writes functional specifications and works with developers to implement modifications to the system. Establishes priorities for technology initiatives.
  • Leads project management efforts on behalf of the Systems team. Evaluates business needs and determines gaps between existing data and supplemental data needed. Works closely with departmental graduate program staff to refine business requirements and to conduct quality control changes to data setups.
  • Works with Information Technology staff to ensure constituents have proper access to necessary pages and functions. Ensures that PeopleSoft bulk data processes run correctly to support the Graduate School’s data management needs.
  • Remains abreast of technological changes that may enhance services provided by the Graduate School. Maintains technical proficiency through appropriate courses, self-study, publications, professional meetings, special interest groups, and contact with others in related occupations.
  • Collaborates with Graduate School Systems team members to perform systems testing, data configuration and data entry projects, record-level troubleshooting, website updates, and quality control reviews of annual reports. Participates in team efforts to implement new systems. Develops, revises, and maintains documentation for complex systems and procedures in coordination with other team members.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of student files and ensures the distribution of information within federal, state, and university regulations.
  • Serves on appropriate University committees when requested.

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree in Information System/Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Management or related field plus four (4) years of administrative computing experience.
  • Understanding of project management principles, techniques, and tools.
  • Experience working with a broad range of computing environments and systems, particularly client/server systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and support constituents at all organization levels, both technical and non-technical.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
  • Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Work experience in higher education.
  • Experience with a complex enterprise data system as a programmer or analyst.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft’s student information system.
  • Prior business analyst experience.
  • Prior experience training constituents to use data management tools effectively.
  • Web content editing applications; Drupal experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and University laws, regulations, and procedures regarding maintaining student records.

    • Typical office environment.

    Work Schedule

    • Monday – Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
    • Some nights and weekends as needed.
