The Opportunity:

The Department of Teaching and Learning at Washington State University in Pullman, WA campus seeks applicants with research-intensive interests in Special Education for a tenure track faculty position. Washington State University is a research-focused doctoral granting institution. The applicant will have an earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field (before August 15, 2023), with the potential for contributing to existing program strengths and projects. Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct scholarly Special Education research leading to nationally and internationally recognized publications and presentations. Pursue external funding to support research agenda. Advise/mentor graduate students. Teach undergraduate and graduate Special Education, teacher preparation, and research courses, utilizing face-to-face, online, and/or teleconferencing formats. Work productively with Special Education and general education, faculty across programs and campuses to meet research, student, and programmatic needs. Engage in service activities at a variety of levels.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field before August 15, 2023.

  • Demonstrated record of or potential for scholarly productivity, managing research studies/projects, and procuring extramural funding.

  • Evidence of a defined research agenda and dissemination of scholarly work.

  • Experience teaching Special Education or serving individuals with disabilities in P-16 settings.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underrepresented, multilingual, culturally-diverse students, and use of culturally responsive practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in one or more disability categories including autism, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, attention/hyperactivity disorders, or emotional/behavioral disorders.

  • Expertise in one or more areas including teacher preparation, transition/secondary/post-secondary education, Universal Design for Learning, innovative/assistive technologies, applied behavior analysis/evidence-based practices, literacy, math instruction, or STEM.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
