Description:

The Interdisciplinary Linguistics Program at Tulane University invites applications for a Professor of Practice in American sign Language (ASL) Studies. The Professor of Practice is a teaching intensive position with copious opportunities for intellectual engagement and institutional and societal contribution. Teaching and service constitute the criteria for advancement for faculty on this teaching track. Tulane University has a commitment to Professors of the Practice as full colleagues with long-term, renewable contracts.

The successful candidate will teach 3 courses per semester and will supervise and help strengthen the growing ASL program.

The Interdisciplinary Linguistics Program is a vibrant program composed of faculty from a variety of disciplines across Tulane University and offers a Major as well as a PhD program.


Qualifications:

Applicants should have a doctoral degree -or at least a master's degree with 5 years of teaching experience- in the field of ASL Studies, ASL Education, ASL Interpretation and Translation, Deaf Culture, Linguistics or a related field and demonstrate native-like proficiency in ASL. Preferred qualifications include teaching experience at the postsecondary level, knowledge of ASTLA standards, experience with interpretation and translation.
