Description of Work:The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is searching for two new faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor. The positions are tenure-leading with a 9-month appointment. The successful candidates must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population, including underrepresented minorities. Recognizing that diversity within a context of inclusivity enhances creativity, innovation, impact, and a sense of belonging, our department and college are committed to creating learning, research, and work environments that are inclusive of all forms of human diversity. Candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Behavioral interventions.
- Multi-tiered systems of support (including PBIS).
- Emotional disturbance and/or children displaying challenging behaviors.
- Sensory disabilities.
- Academic/instructional interventions.
- Reading and/or writing for children with or at-risk for disabilities.
- Specific learning disability in academic content areas.
We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates who can demonstrate their experience with shaping a workplace culture based on respect for differences and/or experiences with promoting equity and positive cross-cultural relationships.
Responsibilities
Establish an extramurally funded and collaborative program of research. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in area of expertise or closely related areas. Contribute to ongoing development of the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, and to the field. Advise and mentor students in research and practice.

- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in special education or related field (e.g., developmental psychology, school psychology).
- Established record or evidence of strong potential for programmatic research and peer-reviewed publications.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience or other related experience (e.g., exceptional expertise, documented scholarship, skills, or experience with children).
- Commitment to promoting and encouraging diversity and cultural responsivity.
- Experience in college teaching.
- Evidence of professional collaboration (e.g., public schools, educational agencies, other institutions).
- Experience integrating content areas in a cross-curricular approach to instruction.
