Position Summary

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-system position as Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Applications are encouraged in all areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering; however, we are particularly interested in complementing our expertise in the following areas: power/energy systems and electrification; mobile and embedded computing systems; and edge AI and real-time machine learning. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field by the anticipated start date of August 16, 2023.

Candidates are encouraged to describe the potential impacts of their research focus as well as how their work might complement existing strengths in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering or other research programs at Michigan State. The Electrical and Computer Engineering department has strong interdisciplinary research at the frontiers of knowledge, and first-class educational programs on a foundation of core electrical and computer engineering disciplines. The Department has 44 faculty members, including 14 IEEE Fellows, 14 NSF CAREER, three DARPA YFA, one AFOSR YIP awardees, and four University Distinguished Faculty. The Department has strong research programs in all major areas of electrical and computer engineering, with annual research expenditures of about $15M. Faculty in the Department are leading several federal and industry-supported centers, including the NSF Science and Technology Center BEACON, the Fraunhofer USA Center Midwest (CMW) Coatings and Diamond Technologies Division, and the Connected and Autonomous Networked Vehicles with Active Safety (CANVAS) research center. The Department has accredited B.S. degree programs in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Tenure-system faculty are expected to establish a vibrant, sustainable, and internationally visible research program; make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline; be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students; engage in institutional and professional service as well as public outreach. The successful candidate will also be capable of teaching electrical and computer engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Other qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, an ability to work in a collaborative research environment and a commitment to promoting and embracing diversity. The Department and College have a strong track record of mentoring junior faculty to successfully grow their academic careers.
