CLASS department is looking for an Assistant Professor in Design. A successful candidate will teach classes and conduct research within the field of design studies, theory, and/or studio. Additional expertise in technical communication, sociology, or psychology is strongly desired. The teaching load is a 3-3, including both upper division classes and general education courses, with research and service expectations. The position begins August 1, 2023. 

 

 

 

Combination of a PhD or terminal degree in a digital design-relevant social science, humanities or art discipline. Preference will be given to those able to engage with the overall mission of New Mexico Tech and with the CLASS department’s long-term strategic plans to combine social science, communication, humanities, and the arts with the STEM fields, such as within user experience research, product design, and/or existing programs in technical communication and psychology. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can connect their work to issues in gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity.  Other required qualifications include an ability to conduct and disseminate research appropriate to the discipline and an ability to support student academic success by engaging and encouraging students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. 

 

 

 

Communication, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences is a vibrant multidisciplinary department of scholars from Technical Communication, Science & Technology Studies, Graphic Design, Social Media/Film Studies, Psychology, Education, Philosophy, Spanish, History, and Composition Studies. In addition to supporting a strong BS program in Technical Communication, BS/BA in Psychology, and MS in Public Engagement, department faculty teach general education courses tailored to the needs of the student body and participate in interdisciplinary research and teaching efforts.
