Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado, College of Nursing, is seeking a Behavioral Health Provider (BHP) specialized in substance use treatment for a full time, (1.0 FTE) benefits-eligible position at the Sheridan Health Services (SHS) Family Health Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236). This position is clinic-based as a mental health provider and includes an Instructor or Senior Instructor (open rank) level, non-tenure clinical practice track appointment within the College of Nursing.

Clinic Description:

Sheridan Health Services is a multi-site, nurse-managed federally qualified community health center, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Primary Healthcare; and is a collaborative effort between the College of Nursing and the Sheridan School District. There are now 52 employees at two convenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents of Arapahoe, Denver and Jefferson counties. A Youth Health Clinic is located in the Sheridan School District Administration building. The Family Health Clinic is located in southwest Denver on the Fort Logan campus and provides services to adults and children, 65% of whom identify at Latinx, and 42% of whom are best served in another language, with Spanish being the predominant second language. Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenatal and postpartum, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, and outpatient substance abuse treatment. Sheridan Health Services is a Patient-Centered Medical Home, and as such, we uphold a model of care that places the patient at the center, incorporating the values and beliefs of the patient in all decision-making. Examples of Work Performed:
  • Provide general outpatient substance use treatment via individual, group and family therapy, case management, crisis management, skill building, and psycho-education to adults.
  • Provide case management and care coordination with providers of service including but not limited to primary care providers, school personnel, family members, and other mental health and community partners.
  • Evaluate crisis situations and take appropriate action to ensure client safety and the safety of all clinic users.
  • Participate in scheduled behavioral health team meetings, interdisciplinary work groups, monthly staff meetings, and other required meetings.
  • Complete all required clinical and administrative documentation to accepted standards of practice, accurately, legibly, and by established timelines on electronic health record system and paper as needed.
  • Utilize best practices and provide all treatment within appropriate limits. Complete and follow through with financial and clinical information necessary to ensure reimbursement for provided services.
  • Expected to demonstrate high quality customer service focus, good communication and professionalism with clinic users, co-workers and representatives from outside agencies and to enhance community relationships.
  • Performs other duties as determined by the Behavioral Health Clinical Lead, Behavioral Health Director or Executive Director.
  • Completes necessary documentation according to established documentation timelines and in adherence with payor source(s) standards

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

$66,460 - $74,767 annually at Instructor of Clinical Practice/LCSW, LPC

$66,460 - $74,767 annually at Sr. Instructor of Clinical Practice/LCSW, LPC

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Instructor:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling or closely related field.
  • Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or similar.
    • Current licensure in good standing (any state). Could be working toward CO clinical license during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have CO licensures by date of hire.
  • One year of experience providing inpatient or outpatient substance use disorder treatment services
  • One year of experience as a practicing therapist.

Senior Instructor:
  • Master's degree in social work, counseling or closely related field.
  • Colorado Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) or Certified Addiction Counselor (CAS).
  • Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or similar.
    • Current licensure in good standing (any state). Could be working toward CO clinical license during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have CO licensures by date of hire.
  • One year of experience providing inpatient or outpatient substance use disorder treatment services
  • One year of experience as a practicing therapist.
  • Demonstrated leadership in area of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students in practice activities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience utilizing bilingual (Spanish/English) at a conversational level in a clinical setting
  • Experience working with population-based outcomes.
  • Experience working with clients involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Experience providing behavioral health services in a primary care setting, using brief treatment modalities with an emphasis on time effective, recovery oriented, evidenced-based treatment.
  • Experience with care delivery that incorporates a social justice perspective around the intersectionality of racism, classism, LGBTQ issues, and other forms of oppression.
  • Experience with prevention and early intervention approaches utilizing trauma informed care

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be willing and able to pursue LAC/CAS within first year of hire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado licenses by date of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain valid NPI number by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to complete CAQH by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification within one month of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to actively participate in health plan contracts
  • Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials are current
  • Must be willing and able to ensure strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures
  • Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends as required

Competencies:
  • Ability to use computer and clinic software, and to document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of staff, faculty, community members, and clients.
  • Expertise in clinical assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and youth, families, and groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of primary care-behavioral health integrated programs, including fundamental elements of co-located and/or fully integrated services.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer and electronic medical record.
  • Ability to maintain standard caseload of patients
