The Karl E. Mundt Library at Dakota State University seeks an innovative, collegial, and professional individual to bring a technological expertise and a deep understanding and awareness of the future of libraries to the position of Digital Resource Librarian. The Digital Resource Librarian is responsible for providing institutional leadership in the development, implementation, maintenance, and use of the library’s electronic resources and technologies. The Digital Resource Librarian is a non-tenure track (term) faculty position that reports to the Library Director and is part of a small but innovative and highly collaborative group of professionals. Rank will be determined based on the applicant’s qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, designs, and maintains the library’s websites and social media ensuring accessible online access to the full-range of library resources and services.
  • Regularly evaluates user experience and usability of the library’s website, discovery tools, and web-based services with usability tests, surveys, and other methods and collaborates on the design and modifications to implement changes.
  • Responsible for managing the life cycle of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, streaming media, serials, etc. in order to maintain discoverability and accessibility.
  • Includes troubleshooting and collaboration with others to ensure access and technical support for all electronic resources as well as authentication protocols, proxy configuration, and customizing interfaces for electronic resources access and discovery.
  • Establishes relationships with vendors.
  • Collects and analyzes usage data to assist in selection decisions.
  • Promotes public awareness and use of electronic resources.
  • Serves as the database administrator for the library’s integrated system.
  • Investigates, recommends, implements and troubleshoots APIs and other integrations for the purpose of expediting the quality of work within library departments and/or the user experience with library resources.
  • Responsible for the information technology infrastructure for the library.
  • Trains staff on new technologies.
  • Provides leadership in solving problems associated with delivery of electronic resources.
  • Problem solves in areas of metadata management.
  • Serves as the library representative on assorted university committees.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in library or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Knowledge and application of website design, usability, and information architecture concepts.
  • Experience using web design software.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to delegate tasks.
  • Evidence of effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Personal attributes: professionalism, persistence, willingness to learn, responsible, self-starter.
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours as needed.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional experience in an academic library.
  • Experience with ExLibris ALMA, Primo, OCLC EZ-Proxy, Springshare’s suite of Libguides, WordPress.
  • A second master’s or advanced degree will be required for promotion within the librarian faculty rank (not required).
