The Department of History at William Jewell College seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in modern British history and British colonialism, with an interest in developing courses in African history, Middle Eastern history, Latin American history, or Asian history. Ability to teach existing courses in gender history and/or history of slavery a plus. Successful candidates will have demonstrated success in teaching, a strong record of research and publications or evidence of a promising future record, and the desire to integrate fully into the life of the college.
This is a full-time, tenure-track position that will begin in August 2023. A doctorate in History is required by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentorship; student involvement in research; student advising; the ability to teach a range of undergraduate history courses; and program development.

Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in History is required
- Ability to teach survey courses in world history as well as courses across the undergraduate history curriculum, including courses in their areas of expertise
- Ability to engage undergraduate students in research and scholarly activity
- Commitment to teach interdisciplinary courses as part of the College’s interdisciplinary core curriculum (Critical Thought and Inquiry program), particularly first-year seminars or senior capstones
- Willingness to assume a variety of responsibilities in a small department
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaching up to 24 contact hours per year (i.e., three 4-credit courses per semester)
- Curriculum and assessment development
- Develop a program of scholarly activity with undergraduates
- Service to the College and community including academic advising and involvement in College and departmental committees and activities
