Augustana University (AU) seeks an established leader to serve as the Dean of the School of Business. This is an exciting opportunity to build on AU’s stellar reputation and the impressive momentum at the University and in the School. The Dean is expected to provide visionary, 21st-century leadership to align with the University’s mission, its five core values, and the Viking Bold: Journey to 2030 strategic plan.  In this leadership role, the Dean will oversee academic programs at the undergraduate level in the areas of Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Fintech, Management, Marketing and Sports Management, and at the graduate level in Accountancy, Business Administration, and Sports Administration and Leadership. In addition, the new dean will empower faculty and staff to expand, develop, streamline, and revise business programs as needed.

The AU School of Business provides a competitive and innovative advantage to our students in an ever-changing workplace and job market. Poised for growth through new, emerging, and established academic programs that combine traditional, online, and hybrid delivery modalities, the School aspires to serve students by serving the community and the region. To this end, AU seeks a leader who will help cultivate and facilitate relationships and place-based opportunities for students to grow professionally and personally as they participate in internships, job shadowing, research opportunities, study away experiences, and other forms of experiential learning.

The Dean will work closely with faculty, administration, and members of the local and regional community to blend a leadership-focused, student-centered pedagogy in business with a hands-on approach to instruction in numerous dynamic and evolving fields of study. The ideal candidate will thus be able to work collaboratively and creatively with a dedicated and award-winning faculty to move the various aspects of business education forward in ways that are inclusive and technologically progressive. Adept at cooperation, able to partner with and empower constituents across campus and throughout the local and regional community. The successful candidate will combine a career of academic research and achievement with strategic leadership ability, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, a deep appreciation of and commitment to the field of business, and an unwavering support of students, student learning, and faculty development.

Reporting to the Provost and serving on the President’s Council, the Dean will be accountable for the quality of the School’s academic programs, aligning the priorities of the School with those of the University, and enabling both the School and University to flourish. The Dean will be an advocate for the full array of disciplines and programs, employees, and students, and for collaborating with departmental colleagues to develop an overarching vision for the School that will pull these components into an integrated and innovative whole.

Augustana’s new dean will bring experience in higher education as an administrator, with demonstrated expertise in managing the financial, academic and research activity of a business program and in promoting the interests of a business program within a university and/or a local and regional university community. Evidence of successful university teaching and research work appropriate to the academic mission of the department and the university is required. Successful experience in fundraising is desirable. Interacting with students, faculty, and leadership with diverse backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be top priorities of the candidate. An advanced degree in a business-related field is required; a terminal degree is preferred.

Confidential inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited at the email address listed below. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. For fullest consideration, application materials should be received no later than January 27, 2023. Application materials, including a letter of interest; curriculum vitae; a statement of commitment to diversity; and a statement of teaching philosophy should be sent electronically to the consultants supporting the search, Ann Yates and Rob Franklin, at AugustanaDean@zrgpartners.com

Submission of official transcripts may be required upon employment. Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check.
