Director of the Scholars Program and Academic Advising & Enrichment

Pay Class and Classification: Exempt, Regular Full Time

Supervisor: Dean of Studies

Position Purpose: Provides academic and administrative leadership and support for academic enrichment initiatives at Union College, including but not limited to the Scholars Program, the Seward Interdisciplinary Fellows Program, and academic advising at Union college. Provides vision and leadership for the Union College Scholars and Seward Interdisciplinary Fellows programs, academic advising, and other academic support programs and services. Partners across the College community – including with faculty, students, admissions, and student affairs – to provide support for students and their faculty advisors with the goal of helping students find their passions and chart rich and rewarding paths through the curriculum at Union College.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Programmatic Leadership: Collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to develop and administer scholars programs. Directs academic advising at the College and serves on the Committee on Teaching and Advising. 
  2. Student Support: Assists and guides students with the Seward Interdisciplinary Fellow and Organizing Theme Major application processes. Administers academic internship options for students. Assists in the management of other student support programs. 
  3. Administrative Tasks: Serves as designee of the Dean of Studies in Honor Code proceedings. Plans, monitors, and approves annual budgets and manages accounting transactions related to Scholars Programs. Interfaces with the Registrar’s office with respect to the Scholars programs, academic advising, and academic internship and organizing theme major administration.

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling or related fields, and 3-5 years of experience with student enrichment programs, academic advising, and/or student academic support and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience. 
  2. Demonstrated commitment to student advising and support in the academic realm.
  3. Demonstrated skills in project planning, implementation and assessment of academic enrichment programs and services.
  4. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to be impartial and establish rapport with a diverse range of campus community members.
  5. Able to exercise exceptional judgment, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism in a range of situations.
  6. Able to support, contribute to, and strengthen a vibrant, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community of students, alumni, faculty, and fellow staff colleagues. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D degree. Previous experience working at a liberal arts institution.
