We are looking for a new CLINICAL RESEARCH & EDUCATION LIBRARIAN in the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). This is an embedded librarian position in a clinical department with exciting opportunities to support medical education and clinical research.  The successful candidate will be a true member of the Anesthesia Department, with every faculty, resident, fellow, and support staff knowing who the librarian is and how they can support their work. In the world of health sciences librarianship, where half the battle is getting the word out, this is a fantastic opportunity.

  • Be an integral member of a clinical department, working as an embedded librarian at one the of largest hospitals in the U.S. The Clinical Research and Education Librarian is an essential member of both the Graduate Medical Education team and the Clinical Research program in the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine. As part of these teams, you will: Work as a key member of the education team to improve teaching, wellness, and recruitment of anesthesia residents and fellows. Support the delivery and organization of graduate medical education materials through the management and improvement of our departmental Wiki for Anesthesia Education. Teach multiple Evidence-Based Medicine and library sessions to every class of incoming anesthesia residents. Attend Anesthesia Faculty meetings, Residency meetings, and many other departmental events. Support Anesthesiology Department Research, in a specialty which encompasses lung injury, pain management and perception, critical care, data science, and precision and predictive medicine. Be a vital step and one of the first stops in the clinical research process, helping faculty, residents, and fellows develop and refine research questions and incorporate literature into their studies. Support patient safety and quality improvement by participating in our Continuous Quality Improvement Conference. As a co-author, participate in systematic review teams focused on patient handoffs and medical education.

As a faculty member of UAB Libraries, you will receive backing and guidance from your librarian colleagues across UAB’s campus along with opportunities to serve on library and campus-wide committees. The Clinical Research & Education Librarian also provides important insight to campus librarians as to the workings of the UAB Health System and how clinical providers interact with and use library resources
