DEAN, RUSS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

Ohio University (OHIO) invites expressions of interest and nominations for the position of Dean of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. The dean position reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost (EVPP).

Chartered in 1804, Ohio University is the state's first institution of higher education and one of America's oldest public universities. As of 2022, OHIO was designated an R1 Classification according to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The main campus of Ohio University is in Athens, Ohio, with five regional campuses, additional satellite locations, and extensive competitive online programs. OHIO has 13 colleges and offers a total of 249 undergraduate majors, and over 130 master’s and 35 Ph.D. programs. The university has an enrollment of more than 27,600 students. The city of Athens has a population of 25,000 and is in southeastern Ohio along the Hocking River, with abundant outdoor recreation opportunities nearby and a culturally rich college town atmosphere.

The Russ College of Engineering and Technology offers more than 20 degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The college includes seven academic departments: Aviation, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Engineering Technology and Management, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The college currently has just over 2,000 students enrolled, and 80 faculty members, 63 of which are full-time tenured or tenure-track. The college has an annual budget of approximately $38 million. The college enjoys generous and dedicated support from alumni and friends, who have provided an unparalleled $180 million endowment. The Russ College conducts world-class research in three strategic areas: air and ground transportation infrastructure, energy and the environment, and bioengineering. This research takes place in state-of-the-art facilities and within an array of centers and institutes: Avionics Engineering Center; Center for Advanced Materials Processing; Center for Advanced Systems and Transportation Logistics Engineering; Center for Air Quality, Center for Scientific Computing and Immersive Technologies; Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology; Institute for Sustainable Energy and Environment; Ohio Research Institute for Transportation and the Environment; Richard H. McFarland Avionics Building. In addition, the college will open the Russ Research Opportunity Center in 2023, a state-of-the-art facility designed to promote interdisciplinary collaborations.

The next dean of the Russ College of Engineering and Technology will join the Russ College community as it builds on its current momentum and elevates itself among public institutions offering undergraduate and graduate engineering and technology education. The dean reports to the EVPP and is the chief administrative, academic, and budgetary officer of the college. The ideal candidate will hold an earned doctorate in one of the Russ College areas of study, have achieved a distinguished record of scholarly, professional, and creative achievement recognized and respected nationally and internationally, and demonstrated experience in transforming undergraduate and graduate learning at a departmental, college, or university level. The dean will be tenured as a Full Professor in one of the programs within the college.
