Position Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care under the direction under the direction of a physician or another healthcare provider. The CMA works to facilitate clinic workflow, assist patients, and ensure safe, seamless delivery of care for each patient.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.
  • Accurately processes and records telephone messages in patient medical record and according to policy.
  • Assists in preparing prescription refills for providers and according to policy.
  • Communicates effectively and in an attentive and manner with every patient encounter.
  • Verifies patient's understanding of the purpose of the visit.
  • Accurately documents all care provided and procedures performed within the patient's medical record.
  • Accurately records patient charges for medications, supplies, equipment, labs, and procedures.
  • Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned, such as completing patient visit records, maintaining departmental logs, answering telephones and taking messages, checking in patients, and scheduling patient appointments.
  • Provides patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment.
  • Assists the providers with patient education pertain to their ongoing care: Normal laboratory and x-ray reports after provider review.
  • Diet and exercise. Laboratory, radiology or procedural preparations.
  • Prepares and/or coordinates referrals as directed by the provider.
  • Cleans exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient.
  • Maintains work areas, exam rooms, supplies, equipment, medications, immunizations
  • Documents work processes as required.
  • Ensures mistakes or inconsistencies in medical record are corrected in order to reduce/eliminate errors.
  • Alerts provider when medical record is incomplete.
  • Ensures medical record compliance by self-documentation attestation.
  • Collects, organizes, and catalogs data for quality reporting.
  • Assists in tracking patient follow-up and compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as assisting with orienting/training new employees, transporting equipment or patients, stocking shelves, and/or ordering supplies.
  • Performs appropriate basic and/or routine regular delegated medical functions as directed and within appropriate scope of practice as inferred by knowledge, skill level, and CU clinic guidelines.
  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations according to protocols.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for all Medical Assistant and clinical area practices. Includes reception, registration and front-end practices while providing cross-coverage.
  • Demonstrates excellence in customer service and satisfaction levels for internal and external customers; this includes regular review of patient survey information, responding to patient or provider concerns, and efficient resolution of RL events.
  • Adheres to employer work practices, policies and procedures, including office and state protocols.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with leadership, physicians, and colleagues, addresses concerns in a forthright manner.
  • Focuses self and others on achieving quality and financial outcomes in a responsive timely manner.
  • Provides vision and planning to meet goals; welcomes innovation and new approaches to reach new heights in quality and service.
  • Performs core responsibilities of position efficiently and effectively within parameters of organization policies, procedures and external governmental agencies.

    Minimum Qualifications:
      Health Care Tech I (CMA I) A High School Diploma or GED. Current CMA certification (i.e. AAMA, NCCT).
    Health Care Tech II (CMA II) A High School Diploma or GED. One (1) year of Health Care experience. Current CMA certification (i.e. AAMA, NCCT).
    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

    Conditions of Employment:
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider level CPR certification.
    • Complies with applicable University of Colorado School of Medicine, Community Practice mandatory education and training.
    • Maintains all required licensure and certifications for position.
    • Must be able to work in-person.
    • Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications:
      Associate's degree. Medical office experience in area of specialty. Bilingual, Spanish-speaking. Computer skills: EPIC, Kronos. 1+ year of CMA experience in medical office setting. MS Office: Outlook, Power Point, Word.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
    • Ability to interpret, communicate and document with proper medical terminology.
    • Strong knowledge or CPT & ICD-10 procedures.
    • Strong knowledge of value-based care and risk-based coding procedures in Primary Care.
    • Strong knowledge of medication and injection procedures.
    • Ability to safely administer a variety of treatments and medications as directed.

    Salary and Benefits:

    The starting rate (or hiring rate) for this position begins at:
      Certified Medical Assistant I - $20 per hour. Certified Medical Assistant II - $21 per hour.

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
