Job Description:

Binghamton University (SUNY) is seeking exceptional candidates for a faculty position at the tenured Associate Professor level. Specifically, we are seeking candidates who are experienced in the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to conduct innovative and high impact research on human cognitive neuroscience, the structure and/or function of the human brain and/or nervous system, brain imaging technologies and applications and/or MRI-based diagnosis and treatment. The successful candidates will augment existing capabilities and expertise, build on ongoing research and establish and participate in strong cross-campus collaborations. The berth for the candidate will depend upon their training, background and expertise but could include departments in the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The successful candidate will hold the title of SUNY Empire Innovation Associate Professor.

Binghamton University, a top 40 public university, is dedicated to advancing equity and inclusion, and in particular to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment, including a diverse faculty. Evidence of a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service will be valued. Potential applicants who share this goal, especially members of groups historically underrepresented in the field and those from non-traditional backgrounds, women, and persons with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply.

The campus is located on 930 acres (including a 350-acre nature preserve) above the Susquehanna River and received the highest "green" rating in the Princeton Review's ranking of colleges by environmental sustainability. The Greater Binghamton area is a community of about 250,000 with an affordable cost of living. It is surrounded by the forested hills, orchards, and vineyards of upstate New York. The employment base of the area is dominated by electronics, engineering, education, and health care.

Requirements:

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in neuroscience, neuroengineering, or a related discipline and have significant experience in the use of magnetic resonance imaging to study the human brain, nervous system, human cognitive neuroscience, brain imaging technologies or applications and/or MRI-based diagnosis and treatment, as demonstrated by a history of peer reviewed publications and significant extramural funding. They must also have professional qualifications commensurate with appointment at the Associate Professor (tenured) rank. Experience in teaching undergraduate or graduate courses is preferred.

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.
