The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for two non-tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor-in-Residence level. These positions are based at the Storrs campus. These are full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track positions that have the possibility of leading to a multi-year contract. While these positions do not require summer teaching, it is possible to offer additional courses during the summer (with compensation). These positions are suitable for candidates who wish to pursue a career with an emphasis on undergraduate teaching.
The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching a combination of courses in at least two of the following fields: Biochemistry, Microbiology, or Genetics. Other responsibilities will include developing success and retention strategies for biology students as well as some advising of undergraduate students. Successful candidates will be expected to promote a sense of community for all students through the incorporation of interactive and inclusive teaching strategies. In particular, methods which facilitate participation among members of under-represented groups and integrate multicultural experiences into instruction and research are essential. Successful candidates will have the ability to develop pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will perform service to the Department and/or campus through participation in committee work as requested.
The Department of Molecular & Cell Biology has a broad and interdisciplinary research program that offers courses at the cutting edge of a wide range of molecular biosciences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSPh.D. in a field related to biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, cell biology, or an equivalent degree by the start date.Experience teaching undergraduate courses.Demonstrated expertise in biochemistry, microbiology, and/or genetics.A demonstrated commitment to engagement with diverse populations. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPostdoctoral research experience or equivalent.Track record of developing and implementing inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices, and experiential learning.Experience working with innovative methods to improve student success and retention.Prior experience with course and curriculum development.A record of effective teaching and advising.Experience in scientific writing, responsible conduct of research, or laboratory management.Experience in the design and guidance of student research projects.Evidence of integrating technology, such as learning management software, into instruction.An understanding of how course material relates to current scientific trends and careers in STEM.
These positions are full-time, nine (9)-month non-tenure-track appointments, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2023. These positions may be annually renewable based on performance, funding, and needs of the Department and College. The salary minimum will be $60,000 with possible flexibility depending on the candidate. Additional salary can be earned through summer teaching.
