Information Technology ServicesJob Description

Provide in person and virtual support for classes and events. Install, test and maintain A/V technologies and control systems. Provide instruction and write documentation for classroom systems, software and technologies. Work closely with the ITS Tier 1 Help desk and Technical Service serving as a back-up for those areas as needed.

Provide virtual and in-person support for Smith Classes and Events:

• Respond to requests for help in the classroom.

• Document problems and solutions in ticketing system.

• Assist with evaluating user needs relating to in-person and virtual events.

• Provide technical expertise in Zoom meetings and webinars.

AV technologies and Control systems:

• Research, install, and service classroom AV system components

• Troubleshoot Audio/Visual issues

Instruction and documentation:

• Lead and assist in workshops to train members of the Smith community to be self-sufficient.

• Provide instruction to end users in the classroom and virtually.

• Write user-facing documentation for classroom and virtual technologies.

• Provide technical support, advice and information to other ITS staff.

Back-up the Tier 1 Help Desk and Technical Services, providing phone, email and walk-in support for general inquiries and hardware deployment and repair, as needed. Assist with various ITS projects as needed.

Maintain expertise in A/V and computing technologies used at Smith, including Extron systems, Windows and Mac Operating Systems and campus standard computer hardware and enterprise software. Assist in the evaluation of new hardware solutions and software applications.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses):

A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science field and 3 years' experience in a related role, within an IT Support organization or equivalent combination of education/experience. Experience with Extron systems; Experience with Zoom or similar web-based conferencing platform. Experience with troubleshooting a variety of IT related problems. Experience in effectively handling difficult and high-pressure support situations in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Experience in assisting end users with the use of new technologies.

Skills & Preferred Qualifications:

Strong customer service skills; Knowledge of A/V technologies and computer systems (Hardware and OS); a strong aptitude and desire to learn new technologies; good judgment, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality,

All successful ITS staff are known for effectively applied expertise, thoughtful question to detail, timely and appropriately calibrated follow-up, proactive and constructive problem-solving, openness to new approaches, and for building effective partnerships and trust within ITS, across the College and (where relevant) with external partners.
