Research Program Assistant II
The Department of Pediatric Infectious Disease is seeking a part-time Research Program Assistant II, who will work under the general supervision of the Research Coordinator, and will provide clerical, laboratory, and coordination support for one or more studies. The successful candidate will have a range of duties includes, but is not limited to: data collection, data entry, organizing collected information, records management, management of study specimens, patient recruitment/ interviews, and communicating with team members on the status of project(s).

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • General knowledge of the research and applies basic analytical skills to administer assigned projects, and to identify situations requiring special attention.
  • Assist with data and study sample repository management.
  • Laboratory duties include basic lab skills: processing, storing, labeling, and identifying study samples.
  • Will support research team on multiple clinical trials, observational, and multi-center studies.
  • May serve as primary contact for study participants at multiple locations.
  • Ensure that case files and accompanying paperwork are organized and current.
  • Clerical duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Some basic microbiology laboratory skills - bacterial plating, streaking, pipetting, etc.
  • Knowledge with computer applications, including Microsoft word, Excel, and spreadsheet application.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail are highly desired, as is the ability to work independently.
  • The applicant will demonstrate an ability to work well with other professionals with minimal supervision, and comfort being part of a diverse professional team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college courses preferred in Public Health, Biology, or related major.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00-$20.40 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
