Context of the Job:

Under the limited direction of the Director of Billing/Quality Control, the Student Financial Data Analyst is responsible for the data integrity of all student account and student billing information. The Student Financial Data Analyst has the responsibility to support the day to day student account processing; including student refunds, third-party billing, departmental debits /credits/funding, HR Benefits. This position serves as the chief financial liaison in management of collection of student receivables both internally and in collaboration with other departments on campus. A key and on-going expectation for this position is to develop data and reporting infrastructure that ensures the integrity of the student financial data. The Student Financial Data Analyst will be responsible for analysis, KPI/metric reporting and reconciliations. The Student Financial Data Analyst participates in department-wide strategic planning and various initiatives to impact the mission and goals of the department.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Designs, establishes, and maintains data and reporting to effectively measure the integrity of student financial data. Including, operational and financial benchmarks and reporting measures that gauge the student financial receivable progress.
  • Oversees student billing data, third party credits, departmental credits/debits, tuition benefits, student refunds.
  • Completes key reconciliations, including but not limited to registration reconciliation and other Asset and Liability Accounts
  • Responsibility to liaise with departments that impacts the student accounts both internal and external clients.
  • Represents the organization at departmental meetings; supports the development of new programs and/or policies related to student finances. For example, but not limited to, the administration of college discounts, study abroad financials and housing/dining transactions.
  • Promotes communication and initiates training internally and among various University-wide departments regarding Student Financial practices, policy interpretation, problem resolution to improve operating efficiencies and service while complying with university regulations and state and federal law.
  • Monitors efficiency; develops reporting procedures and other methods to establish accountability and measure success; revises processes and procedures to reflect improved service delivery and collection of student receivables.
  • Analyzes trends in student receivables; designs and implements strategic programs for targeting groups of students for SFS Advisor outreach.
  • Establishes and implements short- range goals, objectives and operating procedures.
  • Works with the Director of Student Billing/Quality Control in strengthening policies and long-range planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented and quality conscious.
  • Knowledge and experience to query, gather data from multiple sources, compile and analyze data to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impacts and projections.
  • Skill in performing complex reconciliations.
  • Proficiency with report writing, data analysis, querying, and other reporting tools, e.g., SQL, Excel, Access, UDSIS (Peoplesoft) query and Tableau preferred.
  • Must demonstrate interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and organizational and problem-solving ability.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively as indicated by the needs of the audience and interact well with people with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently, effectively prioritize work, multi-task and adjust to changing workloads and deadlines.
  • Skill in establishing, directing, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Problem-solver and team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Experience in student accounts and/or higher education financial aid environment preferred.
