Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:

  • Earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university (or similar accreditation for universities outside the United States)
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible experience in budget and finance operations in academic institutions
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience with SAP or other enterprise systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to complete complex projects and financial analyses using a variety of data and budget sources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited university (or similar accreditation for universities outside the United States)
  • Experience with self-supporting or fee-based academic budgets
  • Experience with developing budgets for new academic programs

Job Description:

Texas State University’s San Marcos campus is located in a growing community between Austin and San Antonio. Texas State employs more than 7,000 faculty, staff, and students and offers 38,000 students more than 200 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs through the following colleges: Applied Arts, McCoy College of Business, Education, Fine Arts and Communication, Health Professions, Liberal Arts, Science and Engineering, University College, the Honors College, and The Graduate College.

The Director of Academic Budgets reports to the Associate Provost and has an integral role in developing and executing plans for budgeting, financial resources, process design, and related areas in support of the goals and shared values of the division of Academic Affairs and university.

Job Duties:

  • Consult with and provide recommendations to senior leadership in the division of Academic Affairs on budget and financial decisions, risks, practices, and rules, within the context of goals and shared values
  • Serve as primary budget liaison to stakeholders in Academic Affairs, Budget, Financial Planning, and Analysis, and other offices
  • Develop and oversee budgets, transactions, personnel actions, salary reviews, and other financial and personnel processes for division of Academic Affairs
  • Perform special projects and complex analyses for strategic decision-making, often under time constraints
  • Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with staff in Faculty and Academic Resources and Office of the Provost on budget and financial decisions, processes, and improvements
