Position Description :

The Ingram School of Engineering of Texas State University has launched a new civil engineering program focused on the breadth of concepts associated with technology-enhanced (Smart) infrastructure. Currently, the program seeks to fill a non-tenure line position of faculty of practice in geotechnical or structural engineering at the Assistant Professor of Practice or Associate Professor of Practice level to begin in Fall 2023. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach general civil engineering courses, civil engineering design courses, and senior-level capstone design courses. Required Qualifications:

For the Assistant Professor of Practice Rank:

  • A master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of recent experience in a full-time professional practice or management capacity.
  • Professional Licensure/Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire.
  • Demonstrated, by education and design experience, qualifications to teach courses, mainly with design content.
  • Record of professional publications and/or presentations.
  • Demonstrated leadership roles in professional organizations related to civil engineering.

For the Associate Professor of Practice Rank:
  • A master’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of ten years of recent experience in a full-time professional practice or management capacity.
  • Professional Licensure/Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire.
  • Demonstrated, by education and design experience, qualifications to teach courses, mainly with design content.
  • Record of professional publications and/or presentations.
  • Demonstrated leadership roles in professional organizations related to civil engineering.

The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school-established standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

For the Assistant Professor of Practice Rank:

  • A doctoral level degree in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in the application of technology to civil infrastructure.
  • Prior experience teaching civil engineering undergraduate courses.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.

For the Associate Professor of Practice Rank:
  • A doctoral level degree in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in the application of technology to civil infrastructure.
  • Prior experience as instructor of record teaching civil engineering undergraduate courses in geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, or civil engineering design.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
  • Experience with ABET accreditation procedures and deliverables.
  • Experience securing grants for research projects
