Research, Economic Development and Engagement (REDE) is responsible for research policy and integrity, research administration and contract negotiations across ECU for both the main campus and the health sciences campus. REDE directs new intellectual enterprises, including technology transfer. Industry, military and government agency research partnerships and community engagement and economic development activities across the eastern half of North Carolina are also managed by REDE. REDE is responsible for the following units under its umbrella: Office of Research Administration, Office of Human Subjects Protections, Office of Research Integrity & Compliance, Office of Research Development, Office of National Security & Industry Initiatives, Office of Economic & Community Engagement, Office of Innovation & New Ventures, Office of Continuing & Professional Education, Office of Licensing & Commercialization, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Office of Undergraduate Research, and the Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee.Job Duties :
The Office of Continuing & Professional Education (CPE), a unit within Research, Economic Development and Engagement, builds bridges between East Carolina University and the public by providing access to non-curricular professional development resources that engage, educate, and expand learning opportunities. The focus of the Office is to provide high quality non-credit professional development to business, industry, the military, public sector organizations, and other entities for developing a suite of offerings that advance regional transformation and economic development opportunities in eastern North Carolina and other regions.
The University Program Specialist works in the Continuing and Professional Education unit of REDE and reports directly to the director for Continuing and Professional Education. The primary responsibility of this position is program development and support services and day-to-day operations support for both the Continuing and Professional Education and Lifelong Learning programs. Candidates should possess advanced communication and writing skills along with the ability to problem solve, work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner, and to maintain essential digital and physical records for the unit. Effective communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to support faculty, learner, staff, administrators, community members, and the general public, through excellent customer service, a solutions-oriented approach, and collaborative, team-oriented attitude are necessary. This position is expected to apply substantial knowledge of CPE and ECU policies and procedures to the daily operations of the office, interactions with faculty, staff, learners, and community members, and in the analysis of situations and decision-making. The position will contribute to increasing enrollment and revenue and provide support services for adult learners. The University Program Specialist will provide timely, courteous, solutions-based customer assistance for all CPE programs. This customer service includes answering the phones, monitoring and answering the departmental email accounts, accepting payments for courses, providing customer service at in-person events, and developing and maintaining relationships with clients and supporters. Candidates will work occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel as needed. Additional duties include occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Master’s degree in adult education, instructional technology, or curriculum design. At least two (2) years of experience in course design, curriculum development, and/or training delivery. Demonstrated success in planning and/or coordinating events, preferably in a college or university setting. Familiarity with continuing and professional education and lifelong learning programs. Excellent program coordination and management, communication, and human relations skills preferred.License or Certification required by the Department:
