Overview

The Stanley J. Seeger ‘52 Center for Hellenic Studies is seeking a part-time Communications Specialist to join their team. 

 

The Communications Specialist will play a lead role in the design and implementation of the Seeger Center communications strategic plan and will cultivate the voice of the Seeger Center, aligning with the Center’s strategic goals and engaging a wide range of audiences. The Communications Specialist will ensure editorial standards, identify story ideas and write content for the website, video projects, targeted social media strategy, and print media projects. The communications specialist works with Center leadership to enhance the brand identity of the Seeger Center and to strengthen connections with partners and donors.

 

This position is a 50% duty time, (approximately 18 hours/wk)  12-month position that reports directly to the Executive Director. Candidates must be willing and able to adjust their schedule to accommodate evening hours for special events determined well in advance.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning:

  • Create the Center’s strategic communications plan, including establishing branding and marketing standards for all communication assets and a communications protocol for all events and Center activities both on campus and at the Princeton Athens Center (PAthC).
  • Design and develop a communications plan and outreach strategy for promoting and distributing publications and content to multiple audiences; ensure consistent voice and effective message across communication efforts through development of editorial and marketing policies and procedures; play a key role in defining the center’s core audience.
  • Establish a social media presence that draws in new interest and creates excitement around the activities of the Seeger Center and PAthC.

 

Writing and publishing articles and scholarly content:

  • Identify compelling content around the Center's research, teaching, partnerships and events; function as effective liaison among faculty, researchers, students and partners to identify and develop content.
  • Write, produce, and review written content for all assets including website, presentations, email announcements, newsletters, reports, brochures, videos, graphics, posters, news releases, and other publications.

 

Social media content and event promotion:

  • Create and execute a social media presence that supports the Seeger Center mission and goals.
  • Generate appropriate content consistently that promotes research, teaching, events, scholars and all happenings at the Center and PAthC; increase the usage and participation of social media across all audiences.

 

Marketing and promotion of Seeger Center and PAthC:

  • Work with central university communications on highlighting specific Seeger Center and PAthC content that would benefit from being promoted to a university-wide audience.
  • Liaise across units and departments in creative ways to cross promote or partner on stories, videos, and other materials.
Qualifications

Required:

  • 5-7 years communications, editorial or relevant experience.
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability writing about the humanities and broader interdisciplinary work.
  • Experience developing a social media platform and creating consistent content.
  • Excellent communications skills, organization and problem-solving skills, along with a high level of attention to detail; ability to manage project progress and timeline.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with varied teams; ability to build and maintain strong relationships of trust with a wide array of colleagues.
  • High degree of professionalism, poise, positive attitude and strong work ethic.

 

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in communications.
  • Experience in and exposure to the humanities field.
