Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Department of Psychology at Millersville University welcomes applications for a Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor in School Psychology (beginning Spring or Fall of 2023).

The person selected will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses for a total of 24 contract workload hours (or 18 for those teaching graduate courses only) per academic year. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. The review of applications will begin immediately after the close date indicated in this posting.

A complete application comprises the following:

  • A cover letter summarizing how the applicant’s education and experience match the required qualifications of the position.

  • A teaching statement that includes a discussion of working with diverse students,
  • A 3-5 year scholarly plan outlining a scholarly agenda that involves undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree plus ABD in School Psychology from an APA or NASP accredited doctoral program.
  • Must have earned doctorate by November 1, 2023. An official transcript must be submitted as proof of completion. (In the event that the doctorate is not completed by the specified date, the faculty contract will be terminated effective as of the end of the second year of employment.).
  • Knowledge and skills to teach graduate courses in school psychology such as psychological assessment, consultation, applied behavior analysis, classroom and school-wide behavioral interventions, practicum, or internship.
  • Knowledge and skills to supervise graduate students in field activities and placements.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship.
  • Ability to conduct and supervise scholarly activities.
  • Commitment to serve diverse populations and to social justice advocacy within the field of school psychology.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.
  • Ability to support preparation of accreditation materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in School Psychology.
  • Evidence of research and teaching effectiveness.
  • Experience with nondiscriminatory assessment.
  • Experience supervising graduate students in field activities and placements.
  • Knowledge and skills to teach undergraduate courses such as general psychology, developmental psychology, statistics, and research methods, applied behavior analysis, or tests and measurements.
  • At least one year experience as a School Psychologist (including experience with assessment and school-based interventions).

Job Description:

TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Candidates must be willing to teach day, evening and/or weekend classes and conduct classes on and off the Millersville campus through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats. Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and supervise outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., field activities, placements, etc.), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. Faculty are expected to engage in graduate student research/thesis supervision. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours (18 for those teaching graduate courses only) and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days. Expected to assist in graduate-level curricular activities including assisting program faculty in activities associated with maintaining program approval at the state and national level, as well as the evaluation of graduate core competency exams (CCEs). Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. Candidates are expected to fulfil all contractual obligations.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:The Department of Psychology, in the College of Education and Human Services, is comprised of 15 full-time faculty members. All these professors hold doctoral degrees and represent the many dimensions of psychology. Faculty areas of expertise include developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, psychopathology, applied behavior analysis, social psychology, health psychology, learning and memory, neuroscience, school psychology, statistics and research design, and counseling and clinical psychology. The Department of Psychology is housed within the Susan P. Luek Hall, serves nearly 400 undergraduate and 160 graduate students, and contains a clinic which is used for research and training purposes. The department has three graduate programs including an educational specialist degree in School Psychology and master’s degrees in school counseling, and in clinical psychology. The Clinical Psychology graduate program offers two tracks for obtaining a master’s degree in clinical psychology. Students have the option of taking a 42-credit track suitable for entering a doctoral program or a 60-credit track designed to meet the academic requirements for a licensed professional counselor.

Essential Functions:

It is critical that instructors perform the following functions:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses for a total of 24 contract workload hours per academic year (i.e., eight sections per academic year) or six sections per year for those teaching graduate courses only.
  • Prepare course syllabi, lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessment instruments.
  • Foster student learning and professional development.
  • Teach day and evening classes as scheduled.
